Are you a growth-orientated person?

If so, it's likely you've experience moments of lost motivation, energy and distractions. The self-criticism that follows when you fall short of your goals may feel all too familiar.

The weight of absorbing others' energy and overthinking your purpose can be draining. Moreover, the isolation of trying to do it all yourself can take a toll.

You may have tasted the ecstasy of accomplishment in the past. Perhaps you won awards, achieved status, or even became financially prosperous.

But, deep down, something didn't feel right. The price you paid - blood, sweat and tears - was steep, often resulting in physical or emotional turmoil.

One of my clients expressed it perfectly - "I've had the heat up my back for so many years, I don't want that anymore."

Then I stumbled upon the wisdom and science of self-compassion, and it was awe-inspiring. Everything fell into place. I realised that the common thread running through all my challenges was the way I related to myself. I was holding myself back due to my own perceptions of who I was and who I wasn't.

This is why self-compassion holds the key to our transformation. It's no coincidence that Forbes magazine features multiple articles on self-compassion, that LinkedIn champions its power and that tens of thousands of research papers extol its virtues.

Once I understood that the journey of growth involves acceptance, awareness and personal development, everything shifted. My body finally relaxed, and I found peace. The same transformation occurred for my clients.

From burnout to $20 million in deals

Take, for example, one of my clients - a successful entrepreneur, investor and expert in their field. They experienced both highs and lows due to the inherent risks in their work. Being a natural giver, they were prone to burnout, fatigue and self-criticism. When we started working together they were in a deep slump, struggling to recover from painful business challenges.

Through our collaboration, we delved into the root causes of their energetic blocks, identity misalignments and environmental obstacles. Over nine months, they completed over $20 million in deals.

What's truly beautiful is how they now focus on spreading inspiration to open-minded leaders through their investment business, working to foster peace and sustainability worldwide.

And here's the secret - they're going to help others do the same, by turning inward to give outward.

Never underestimate the power of compassion. It holds the potential to ripple goodness across our lives and it's accessible to everyone. Those who harness its true power can transform themselves and inspire positive change in others.

So, without further ado, here are the seven dos and don'ts that will help you avoid the subconscious chatter of most self-help programs:

1. Don't push past fear, dance with it.

2. Don't focus solely on effort, nourish perseverance.

3. Don't criticise yourself on the path to your goals, embrace and love the journey.

4. Don't start big, start small and embrace the long-term journey.

5. Don't resist problems, expect them and foster resilience.

6. Don't push through exhaustion, listen to your body's whispers.

7. Don't forget to forgive, as it's the key to unlocking your potential.
