1 Transformational Approach to Avoid Burnout and Create Flow

High performers with powerful missions are prone to burnout.

Why?

Because, just like you, they are givers.

Giving without boundaries leads to burnout.

Empathy without compassion leads to burnout.

I remember vomiting during a patient consultation when I was a GP partner.

That, along with a patient complaint and my son's challenges, induced an awakening.

Don't allow yourself to experience the dissociation, negativity and exhaustion that burnout creates.

Instead, choose compassion and self-mastery.

This is scientifically proven to reduce burnout because it makes self-care and boundaries part of your identity.

Self-care is not a weekend indulgence, it's a daily necessity.

If you can show me your colour-coded calendar with time blocked out for self-care, then this email is not for you.

For everyone else...

Here is a transformational approach I coach our group clients through called 'reset rhythm'.

'Reset rhythm' is a way to create nervous system resets on autopilot so you never leave a day, week or month feeling drained or close to burnout.

Here are three tips that will awaken self-mastery within you so you can avoid burnout:

1. Self-Care Selection

Recently I was working with an entrepreneur who felt time pressured and harassed.

I asked them about their resets - there were none.

We discussed the essential importance of nervous system resets.

They selected options that aligned with who they were.

Self-care felt fun. Within weeks, they messaged me to share how they had taken more action in their business over the past few weeks compared to the previous few months.

This is the power of aligning your self-care. The intention of self-care is to relax. If your routine induces a sense of burden, you've chosen the wrong activities.

2. Schedule It

"I've never scheduled anything other than meetings", one client mentioned to me...

You haven't lived.

I remember working with a client who jokingly asked if I scheduled every single aspect of my day.

The irony is that I experience more freedom because of scheduling.

If you're like me, then having a flexible structure helps you prioritise what's most important.

The truth is, if you don't schedule what is important and essential, it gets neglected.

You burn out, relationships crumble and your health declines.

Scheduling also allows you to become more mindfully aware of where you are focusing your energy.

This self-check is an essential principle of compassion and it's another key factor in the prevention of burnout.

Schedule your self-care and treat it like any other meeting - you can't overbook otherwise you let yourself down.

The consequence of a lack of personal integrity is that you don't trust yourself, you lose self-confidence and you sit in fear.

Let go of the addiction to more by scheduling your self-care today.

3. Say No

"The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything."  Warren Buffet

Saying no is simple when you have a higher priority.

If your self-care becomes part of your identity, it's easy to say no.

What is most important to you right now?

Why?

If you could only accomplish one transformational goal this year what would it be? Why?

When you get clear on your highest priority, saying no becomes simple.

You can still do this with compassion and love. With the intention of being authentic.

Thank, appreciate and validate people for the offer and be real. Share with them that you need to reset.
