3 Phrases to Deeply Connect With Your Loved Ones...Fast

mind relationships Aug 18, 2023

If you had all the time in the world, what would you do?

“Deeply connect with my loved ones.”

This is the most frequent response I hear from the established entrepreneurs I work with.

We are living in the modern world where the pressure on our time and attention is significant.

We are overwhelmed, time poor and drained.

It is common to be responding to emails from colleagues, receiving banking alerts and answering an unexpected call all at the same time!

As someone who can be sensitive to energy, I personally feel this

This is why I thought I would create a simple Deep Connection Checklist for you to keep in mind to go deep with your children, partner or loved ones in seconds.

Download it here.

To truly go deep, making the time is necessary in the long run, however never underestimate the power of micro-moments; that is what this checklist is for.

Three simple steps for enhancing any relationship

Picture the scene - your child/ partner comes running into the room excited to share something with you…

Their body language is open, smiling and alive!

And in that moment you are closed, busy and stressed. You lose a micro-moment for deep connection and the meaning they make is...

This person does not fully see, hear or love me.

A powerful research study from Gable et al in 2006 found that how people respond to each others joy is more important than how they respond to each others pain

This is further highlighted by studies from relationship specialists John and Julie Gottman…

“Sharing joyful moments can lead to increased intimacy, trust and resilience.”

Here are three simple phrases you can use to go deep that I learnt from a communication expert on Instagram.

Remember TED.

1. Tell me more…

Never underestimate the power of encouraging people to go one layer deeper. Here you will learn about the emotional response and effect of their experience.

2. Explain to me…

Understanding someone’s intention for their joy gives you valuable information to elevate them further. Maybe they love compliments, quality time or an act of service - now you will know.

3. Describe to me…

Now they vividly paint a picture of their inner world and you get a chance to see it. You become attuned and one.
